If you Build it well - Web Site Traffic will come - Webmaster Traffic
Resources
How do you know if your Webmaster Resources are working
effectively?
Tracking sales and visitors to your
website
Normally effectiveness of advertising is measured as conversion rate of visitors into customers. This can be
easily done if your web host provides a site statistics. Many web hosts do provide Awstats and Webstats for this purpose. You really
do need to know where your traffic is coming from and which keywords they use to find your web site in the search engines.
A good conversion rate for your best sales letter is 1 – 3% (depending on the price of the product). In other words, for every
100 targeted prospects who visit your site, at least one of them will buy your product or pay for your service. If the conversion rate is higher
than 2%, then you are doing very, very well with your Internet Business!
On the other hand, if your sales letter’s conversion rate is less than 1%, then you will need to take quick action to make your
site sell more effectively. You may have to do more compelling copy writing, change the layout of your web pages or simply get a better and more
attention-grabbing headline (which is so vital that it can make or break a sale!). Sometimes you might be promoting affiliate products with
inferior sales pages. When that happens, you need to make your own web site to sell the product. This can be in the form of a simple
squeeze page where you capture the potential customer's email address and follow up with a string of sales letters, or you can make a niche site
which consists of several pages on a keyword theme.
Whatever you need to do, you have to increase your conversion rate from poor to excellent!
To track visitors, if your web-hosting doesn’t have a site stat feature built in, you can subscribe to traffic counter
services. Some of the link tracking services will help you to track conversions as well as traffic. extreme-dm.com is a free reliable tracker which I have uses. Another matter is the use of web page address
cloaking to hide affiliate links from those who would cut the referral id from the URL and void your commission. There are some trackers which
will also cloak your links. Many autoresponders now offer tracking service. There are also some sites that offer tracking exclusively. I avoid
the ones that put ad bars or frames on the tracked page. They are just tacky and obvious. An ad tracker of the obnoxious ad frame type
is Trackthatad.com
A free autoresponder which I have used often for tracking as well as their other services is Responsebot.com. Never trust autoresponders and web hosting companies to be
there tomorrow. Keep back up copies of all your important files and email address lists.
There are also page trackers that work from a web host using CGI or MYSQL. These require the webmaster to be able to install the
script and database or to hire someone to do it. A major advantage in doing this is having all your referral links showing your own web site
domain name.
